The 2013 Para-cycling Road Season has officially started with a P1 race in Greenville South Carolina. It is the road course for the 2014 World Para-cycling Championships. Going there, Shelley was able to ride and learn the course. The traffic circles were difficult but taking the information Shelley learned there to the time trial and road races at the Défi Sportif Alter-Ego, Shelley was able to perform very well. She went to the Gilles Villeneuve racetrack for the two races.
Marie-Ève Croteau of Québec, QC and Shelley Gautier of Toronto, ON both two-time World Champions, rode to the first and second place respectively in Tricycle Time Trial Race. The Road Race followed on the next day. Competing against five T2 racers is difficult for Shelley being a T1 racer. She was able to draft behind one T2 racer for parts of the race. When the wind was on her back Shelley would pedal faster to get in front of the T2 rider. Shelley was able to go in front of her nearest competitor and maintain that lead until race finish. Shelley was able to come fifth out of six racers. A difficult accomplishment she is proud of.
